Q . Could you briefly introduce yourself?

Hello, I’m Zozno, a singer-songwriter based in Hongdae. I create music related to travel. And I also guide tourists visiting Hongdae, showing them around music-related spots in the area.

Hongdae is often called a paradise and a haven for musicians. It’s a place with a variety of performance venues where you can watch many different shows. Today, I want to introduce two spots where you can enjoy good music even on days without live performances.

Q . Do you have any cafe recommendations in Korea?

📍 Doduk and Kyubum (Morals and Norms) / 71-15 Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

The first place I’d like to introduce is a cafe called 'Doduk and Kyubum’ (Morals and Norms). A cafe owned by a musician in a band called Netulung (short for “Netherlands Tulip Farm” in Korean). Along with the great coffee, they always play music directly from CDs and vinyl records. The owner selects music based on their mood or the weather that day, which creates a wonderful atmosphere. If you’re looking to enjoy good music with delicious coffee, I highly recommend 'Doduk and Kyubum’ (Morals and Norms).

Q . Where is your favorite place in Korea?

📍현대음률 Modern Music / 194 Seongmisan-ro, Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

The next place I recommend is a bar called ‘Modern Music’. This LP bar plays Korean music exclusively, from the 1960s and 70s up to the early 2000s, entirely from LP records. Here, people can’t make song requests. When I first heard about this, I felt a little disappointed. But as soon as I stepped in, I realized this could be a unique charm of the place. This is a spot where the owner’s distinct musical taste shines through.
